Yet another argument against universal health care

We can't afford it. Period. We as a nation are already so beyond bankrupt it's almost laughable if it wasn't so incredibly terrifying. Our unfunded liabilities by some estimates exceed $100 Trillion. That's about $300,000 PER AMERICAN! Our politicians are truly living in fantasy land. In 1965 when Medicare was enacted, it was estimated that by 1990 it would be costing about $9 billion/year............uhhh...no....try $67 billion. We know our government cannot be trusted to be fiscally responsible, yet we as a nation are considering allowing it to run our healthcare?
On the official site of the congressional budget office you will find their long term budget projections by clicking here: http://www.cbo.gov/doc.cfm?index=10297 , then click on PDF or whatever file. Not an exciting read, but a terrifying one for sure.

Another interesting read is an article from back in 2000 discussing the possible expansion of Medicare, which of course did happen. Well researched and worth reading:

Bottom line. The quality of healthcare in this country will decline (see the UK for more details), and it will cost us through the roof. Enough said. JRD
